I have thought of welding the glass and annealing it, but based upon inguiries, it seem that advice leaned toward the thinking that the chemical/physical nature of the borosilicate would change enough that temperature changes would stress the joints on a blank of any good size. Fusing seems to be the only answer recommended, so as to subject the entire glass to the same changes.
