As far as aluminum goes, there was a 60" made out of it. It has poor thermal characteristics (CoE) and the mirror was only used for IR studies. It also has a reputation of being hard to polish. If wet it oxidizes as you work it and the polishing compounds tend to embed into the surface. Be prepared for dissapointment just in case.
