Richard Schwartz has been doing a decent amount of work with fusing glass and you might want to look about the ATM list archives to see what he's been reporting. Regular glass is too expansive with temp to actually do any real work and you need to use pyrex to keep the temp difference fractures down. He started with plate glass but had poor results, sometimes even losing a mirror at the polishing stage.
