It worked just fine. The cookies are setup to not expire for a good while so you can come back to Astronomy Net again and again from the same browser and find yourself logged in. If you want the cookies removed (ie someone else is about to use your computer) you can log of by selecting "I am not ..." in the upper left and the cookies will vanish.

All the above provides the posters with a bit more security and keeps others from pretending to be you.

I added the security with a mind to provide more benefits to compensate for less convenience.

So far I think this is about the right balance between liberal and conservative security measures.
