A couple of guesses Mike. First, a f5.6 is a pretty fast scope for planetary work. If there`s much turbulence in the atmosphere you could get blurry views. Another hypothesis is that you may have looked early in your viewing session and the optics didn`t have time to match the cooler air. That one`s pushing it a bit.

One question, did you look at the moon and saturn for an extended period of time? Sometimes the sky will cause planetary images to wiggle and blur and then settle down for brief glimpses.

Of course, the 10 mm could be defective, but I would rule out other possibilities before concluding that. How did it do with star clusters, etc?
