The Orion ShortTube 4.5`` has a 18`` long tube and 1000mm (~39``) f/9 focal length. That`s what they say.
Celestron has also Firstscope 114 Short, and the Nestar 114 wich looks about the same, except for the mount.
Thank you for the info, I know quite well how telescopes work.

Quote from the Orion ShortTube 4.5`` page:

We took a standard 4.5" Newtonian optical tube and shrank it down by about half, with the help of a corrector lens built right into the focuser.

What I would like to know is if this is a reliable design.
