Hi! The Nexstar 114 is a very new model and I haven`t seen any reviews on it yet. However, Celestron is a very reputable organization and their products are usually quite good.

I recommend you also look into the Meade Digital Electronic series of refractors and reflectors and their ETX Maksutov Cassegrains.

Another source for first telescope buyers is the Orion Telescope and Binoculars (www.telescope.com)which has a variety of telescopes well suited for first time buyers including some of the Celestron scopes.

The benefit of the Nexstar and Meade Digital series (need the options that allow computer "go to" capability on the Meade) is that you don`t have to have a great command of the sky to find objects of interest.

I`m not that familiar with Celestron`s website but Meade`s provides a pretty decent description of their telescopes. You can find it easily with your search engine.

Good Luck!

Brett
