a couple of small points. if possible, leave your foundation block isolated structurally (say with a 1/2 inch rubber strip) from the first floor slab if people will be walking around in the garden shed while you are taking a 4 hour exposure. your garden shed may be a meeting place for your friends while people observe and take pictures. if nobody will be there, make them intigral with a little re bar to boot. also, if you intend to have reasonably ballanced systems that do not crank a torque into the top of your pier, the rotational deflections mentioned by somebody else will be miniscule. if however, you intend to cantilever and lock large footpoundage into the top of the pier, a calculation will tell you the angular rotation due to the applied moment, no big deal. tom leech |
