RE: Proper Focal Length

I have an 8" f/8 Newtonian telescope. I am very happy with the focal length, but if I had it to do over again I think I would aim at f/7. The mirror is still easy enough to make well, and it can have a small diagonal mirror. This does make a telescope which is about 5 feet long, so you need a place to store it.

The eyepieces I would use most are a low power of about 32mm and a higher power of 10mm.

Good luck with your project, there are many fine books and web sites out there to help you out.
