I used one of Newport`s 14.5 " (1.5" thick) plate glass tools for my mirror. It did not look like a solid piece of glass. It appeared to be two 3/4" disks fused together. Maybe they sell both - fused and solid glass? I would verify what you are getting before purchasing the blank. Be specific with them as to what you plan to use the disk for (mirror vs. grinding tool).

If you do go with Newport, ask if they will bevel the edges of the blank for you. This will save you considerable time and effort.
