You can get glass in 1" thickness and this would be quite fine for a 12" mirror. I have a piece of glass 15" in diameter coming and that`s going to be for a F5 scope.
As far as bonding glass together, the stress on the bonds will cause them to break. Several different people have tried doing it with several different glues and the general result is that the rigidity of the figure is very comprimised with the softer glues and the joint doesn`t last with the more rigid ones.
