I think I recall an article in the Amateur Scientist section of Scientific American some time ago about using an old hi-fi turntable to spin a mirror. There were equations for rpm vs. focal length, etc. I'm not sure whether they just used a liquid for a temporary mirror or some sort of epoxy.
