How were the images before you switched to the new focuser? If they were okay, then the location of the JMI focuser could very well be your problem. The distance forward for the JMI focuser should be the difference in height between the 2 focusers (racked all the way in).

If the bad images always existed, then you may have one or more of the following problems:

Bad collamination
Pinched optics
Bad optics (ie mirror worse than 1/4 wave)

Home depot sells sonotube, but the lengths are only 4 or 5 feet.
