Take a look at
this is the website for an undergraduate radio astronomy lab course which I took when I was at Berkeley. Look at the section on the "X-Band system" -- it has a parts list and a diagram of the reciever. The two elements of the interferometer are TV satellite dishes, just the type of thing that you`re considering.
