Two Piece Truss Tubes

If I wanted to build a small truss tube telecope where each truss tube is actually two tube that connect, what is the best way to connect them. I saw a coupling at Home Depot with two set screws, one for each tube, but that seems like it might be a lot of trouble having to use a screw drive to attach the tubes. Is there a better way and do you recommend not having a two piece tube? I am still trying to decide what kind of scope to build and in the mean time learning all my options. Thanks.
