There`s a few references on the www. Probably the best for what it looks like is at which is an Optics course at UofA.
The wire is in the .003" diameter size and the slit (which needs to be close on a short FL mirror) needs to be in the .002"-.003" size, just very slightly smaller than the wire.
The results of the test are exactly the same as the Foucault test and it`s better to use the wire test for mirrors under F5.
I am working on a F1.9 mirror and am going to need to make a wire tester shortly.
