There`s a few references on the www. Probably the best for what it looks like is at http://www.optics.arizona.edu/jcwyant/Optics513(1999)/optics513ChapterNotes.htm which is an Optics course at UofA.
The wire is in the .003" diameter size and the slit (which needs to be close on a short FL mirror) needs to be in the .002"-.003" size, just very slightly smaller than the wire.
The results of the test are exactly the same as the Foucault test and it`s better to use the wire test for mirrors under F5.
I am working on a F1.9 mirror and am going to need to make a wire tester shortly.
