Glass Thickness Opinions

heh, I`ll get the "hang" of this forum yet..

I am getting ready to start looking for pricing on plate glass to grind for a 10-12" mirror, probably an f/5 ratio.

Now I know about the 6:1 ratio for thickness, and that 7740 pyrex is the way to go. I do want to make my first one out of glass, seeing as the prices of pyrex are so high, compared to glass.

My queston is what is the thinnest I would want to go, with a 10, or 12" diameter piece of glass? Remember, this will be my first mirror to grind. It seems everyone out there, (at least what I`ve come across so far) only carries up to 3/4" thick glass. This sounds way too thin for a 10" mirror, let alone a 12".

Thanks for any input you can give me on this subject.
