I`d almost forgotten that I asked the question about a year ago.

I have since made a filter using the Baader Planetarium film and aircraft plywood for my 6" refractor. It works very well, easily showing granulation and faculae. And it was reasonably inexpensive, not counting my labor.

For public viewing I put a #1 or #2 yellow filter in the light path to avoid the question of why the sun is so white. Most people expect a yellow sun.
