Moving the pivot point onto the trusses will cause alignment problems. What you really want to do is to make a pair of boards which get attached to the sides of the mirror box in the field which extend the pivot point up to where you need it.
Use a sturdy pair of pins to locate the two boards (3/4" aluminum pins which go into rings set in the pivot boards?) and then you can use something like the Dzuz fasteners (those 1/4 turn fasteners used a lot on airplanes and race cars) to hold the pieces onto the side of the mirror box.
All this will allow for a short mirror box which will give you a lot more room to put things in the back. You might also want to use the bottom board as the cover for the mirror box.
Places like Jeg`s WWW.JEGS.COM have the Dzuz fasteners and you may want to look at thier quick release pins also.
