I gave up trying to find some of the fancy hardware described in that book (ie threaded inserts) at the local hardware store. Fortunately, the book provides a number of ways of fastening the truss poles to the cage and mirror box. I ended up using wooden pole sockets and easy to find nuts and bolts.

If you are set on using tube connectors. Try searching the web for sites offering unusual hardware.
