Most glasses need a ratio of 1 to 6 thickness to diameter so yes 3/4" is pretty thin. The main problem is the mirror sagging from improper edge support. The full thickness mirror can be supported on its edge at just a few points. As the mirror gets thinner it nead more point of support on its edge as a sling might provide. Eventually it needs active back and edge supportif the mirror is too thin.
