A few years ago i made a 6" f/13.3 newtonian, and found that it produced very impressive views of the moon and planets, it is spherical, and truly diffraction limited. you have to stand on a milk crate to look through it however. run a knife edge and ronchi test, its probably a sphere. if you want a shorter tube length you may consider a coude or nasmyth focus cassegrain..steve
