Why go out and buy an expensive gear reducer (unless it`s part of the surplus motor) anyway? Go look through the web for mirror grinding machines and you`ll find several. Sorry that I don`t have any URLs. One of them is very nicely described and has a lot of nice pictures (it was described also in a recent ATMJ - a magazine which you should really subscribe to) and will do a decent sized mirror.
