Steve, if you're handy with a soldering iron, you might try to find a schematic for a variable frequency drive controller. They're expensive to buy, but you should be able to build one at reasonable cost. I recall seeing one in an old electronics hobby project magazine long ago. These motors are looking at frequency for motor speed rather than voltage. Most manufacturers of 20 ton+ A/C units use this means to control airflow. VFD gives a complete range of control without any of the detrimental effects of low voltage.

: I would like to control the speed of a 1750rpm washing machine motor im using in a home-made grinding machine : electronically(an scr circuit perhaps)as it is now, im using a 1" pully on the motor, and a 14" on the spindle, which : turns at about 170rpm,would like to vary the rpm, without using a system of pully's,from 0 to 100rpm,anyone know : where i could locate an ac motor controller,or schematic for one? : Thanks : stevec.
