Yes, maybe but the time involved negates the value and if you blow it and have to get another piece of glass, then you lose. The same thing is almost true of reflectors. A mirror kit is about $125 or so for an 8" mirror and you can get an 8" for about $200 or so. Then you have to get or build all of the other parts yourself and the price gradually mounts. The best thing to do if you are on a short budget is buy used. The other thing is to build a longer instrument of modest performance. Newpart Glass Works has Kits for the Objective glass for that.
