: Anyone have any good suggestions for altitude bearings on a dob base I'm building? Don't like the idea of laminate or aluminum wrapped wood, Found a guy who will mill me two aluminum discs(6"), for $150.

Hey There,

$150 to make 2- 6"discs??? That seems a bit extreme. If you've done work with routers and bandsaws, you should be able to do this yourself with only the cost of the aluminum to hinder you. Aluminum is very soft and a router with a carbide wood bit will cut it, you just have to take SHALLOW passes. (and of course all the safety requirements...) I recently cut 2 rings out of 3/16" aluminum to make a cradle for a OTA I'm working on. Other than taking one's time, it's not too different from working with wood.
