: Hi I'm gonna build a 10" DOB. What is the # of the grits and Name of the grits I will need? Also any other info Will be greatly appreciated. I'm a first timer and am a little confused. I'm pretty handy though and don't think I'll have a problem Doing the telescope constuction parts. It's just the optics I'm nervous about.

: Thanks : Tom P I would suggest the following:silicon carbide; #80,120,150,180,220,400,aluminum oxide;30,25,20,15 ,9,5 micron, and i would suggest useing cerium oxide to polish, red rouge takes 3 or 4 times longer than cerium oxide, mirror is not completely polished out until you see no graininess from the center of mirror to the extreme edge when viewed at an angle to a str ong light source(i use the sun). I would also suggest getting a book about making mirrors (ATM VOLUME 1 is a good book)this will give you all the details of grinding, polishing and figuring. ............................good luck.
