Sounds like you're describing the Porter Telescope at Stellafane. Light on that telescope is reflected off of a flat mirror with a hole in the center (that accepts a 2" EP) and bounces off of that to a parabolic mirror some distance away and the light bounces off of the parabolic mirror into the hole of the flat where the EP resides. This was done to allow the observer to sit inside while the telescope was outside in the cold. The flat rotates to do the DEC control of the telescope and the whole telescope and it's cap on the building rotates around to do the RA control of the telescope. You can see pictures of the telescope on the Stellafane web page. That entire rounded end cap of the building rotates and the telescope is the triangular assembly off of it and the single pole is the counterweight for the scope.
