: : I was wondering if it would be possible to make a refractor from a high quality camera telephoto lens. Any suggestions appreciated. : Last week I managed to pick up a second-hand 500mm f/8 Mirror Lens from a camera shop for 39 UKpounds (about $55). It's only about 4" long, so a very compact telescope is a distinct possibility. I'm making the scope now, I'll let you know how it goes.

Adapters are made so that you can convert that to a telescope using a regular 1 1/4" barrel eyepiece.

Have Fun, -Rick
