Low Cost Modif Of 8sec Of Sony Dig Camera

Hello forum,

I am doing astrophotography with a celestron 8 and a digital camera (the great
DSCS85 from Sony) and obtained great results for planets and the moon
However for deep sky (nebula, galaxies) images are very dim because of maximum
exposure of 8 seconds
Does anyone knows how to overcome the 8seconds? Has anyone opened and modified/
customized not a webcam but a real digital camera, for astrophoto?
Does it take an electronics guru to do it?
Another modif I plan is to remove the lens (for direct photo) and maybe
add a Peltier cooler on the back (to remove noise, whenever an exposure of
minutes is achieved)

Of course I am not willing to spend thousands on a dedicated CCD

Please respond at edouards67@hotmail.com since I read the forum randomly

Ed
