Whats Best Process To Get 35mm Slides To Digital

I've got alot of slides that I'd like to get into a digital format. The options that I know of are
1) slide duplicator 2) print commercially then scan or 3) slide scanner, hi res. I guess I'm most interested in slide/neg scanners ....are they up to snuff for the job?
