TeleVue 2.5X Barlow?

I have meade super plossl eyepieces (15, 20, 26,32)(I have a 910mm lenth 90mm Orion refractor). I'd like a quality Barlow to get higher magnifications. I've seen a TeleVue 2.5X Barlow (not a powermate) for sale. This size has been discontinued, and TeleVue now makes a 2X and 3X Barlow. I can't find information if the 2X and 3X is an improved Barlow, or if they are the same with just different magnifications. The money I save buying the 2.5X used is not smart to me if it is an older inferior design. What do you think?
